Pakistan Vs England: First Test Players?

Original Source: Pakistan vs England: Who could feature in first Test?

Ben Stokes leads England to a first Test series in Pakistan since 2005 after a summer in which England won six of seven Tests.

Keaton Jennings, Liam Livingstone, and Will Jacks join Ben Duckett and Harry Brook in the squad.

England added teenage wonder Rehan Ahmed to their spinning options late.

Crawley’s Duckett?

England may offer Duckett another chance to pair Zak Crawley after Alex Lees was dropped.

The 28-year-old opened the Lions’ warm-up match in Abu Dhabi and scored 145 not out against South Africa in August.

On 2016, Duckett played four Tests for England in the subcontinent, scoring 110 runs at 15.71.

The left-hander has scored almost 8,000 runs in 119 first-class matches and helped Nottinghamshire earn promotion back to County Championship Division One in 2022 with 1,012 runs.

Duckett is known for his spin in white-ball cricket, and England hopes he can calm the top order in red-ball cricket.

Bairstow replaced by Brook?

Jonny Bairstow’s expertise at No. 5 is missed by England. After breaking his leg on a golf course, the 33-year-summer old’s ended early.

The Yorkshireman scored 12 in his only innings in the final Test of the home summer against South Africa, giving him a chance to secure a middle-order spot.

With nearly 3,000 first-class runs, Brook is England’s next all-format player. During the County Championship, he scored 967 runs with a Division One-best average of 107.44 for Yorkshire.

Watch England arrive in Pakistan before first Test.

England arrived in Pakistan at the weekend for their first Test series in the country since 2005.

Brook will likely play against Pakistan and aim to challenge Bairstow for the No. 5 place when he returns in 2023.

Who’ll spin second?

England may choose Livingstone, Jacks, or Ahmed as a second spinner alongside Jack Leach because to Pakistan’s flat pitches.

Leading is Livingstone. The 29-year-old offers a plethora of white-ball experience to the squad and has impressed in red-ball games for Lancashire with bat and ball, despite not playing a first-class match since September 2021.

Livingstone has 43 first-class wickets and can bowl leg spin and off spin. He might also be a damaging batsman down the order against Pakistan.

If Leach or Livingstone fail or are hurt, Jacks will have to wait his time.

Interesting addition, Ahmed. Managing director Rob Key has stated that England want to fast-track his development, and his participation in the squad is expected to facilitate that.

England may surprise by giving the 18-year-old a debut to test his mettle. He has taken nine wickets in three first-class games.

Cricket’s Everlasting Relationship and the Fury That Formed It

Original Source: ‘He shared a lot of secrets’: Inside cricket’s unbreakable bond and moment of fury that forged it

Shane Warne was dropped from Australia’s Test team during the 1999 Caribbean trip, unaware of its absurdity.

Warne’s absence from Australia’s Test XI would be like benching Michael Jordan or Maradona at the 1986 World Cup.

Warne was battling post-shoulder surgery in the Caribbean nearly 14 years ago, and then-captain Steve Waugh had a gut feeling he couldn’t shake.

Waugh thinks firing his vice-captain was right. Warne said in his book that Waugh was “jealous” and “completely let down” him.

“I behaved badly,” Warne said in his book. “I wasn’t very supportive of the squad, which I regret.

“Looking back, this was probably a combination of the shoulder condition constantly eating at me and the pure rage rising inside at Steve’s lack of trust.”

Instead, Brian Lara would face Collin Miller and Stuart MacGill in St John’s with Warne furious on the sidelines.

Australia won the Test to escape the four-match series with a 2-2 draw despite Lara making 546 runs at 91.00, including three centuries.

What lingers with Lara about that series, however, is the vulnerability a furious Warne demonstrated to him personally.

Lara told foxsports.com.au that he was unhappy.

“But can you imagine preferring a spinner over Shane Warne? Inconceivable.

“I recall his emotions.”

Warne found a friend in Lara because few can understand brilliance outside of it.

They connected like no other cricketers.

Warne, Australia’s top spinner, and Lara, the Caribbean’s best batsman, faced unique pressure.

They thrived on it, but neither was invincible.

“Warnie was particularly vulnerable as well,” claimed Ian Healy, Warne’s wicketkeeper for years. Even after a successful day, he’d ask, “Is that okay?”

“For the tremendously confident man he was in the center under all the fiercest of pressure and demonstrating the hardest in the game leg-spin skills, he still needed some reinforcement.”

Warne confided in Lara, forming a lifelong friendship.

The legendary duo enjoyed golfing together and reminisced about their cricketing success.

Lara hated Warne’s Ferrari rides after rounds.

Lara would enjoy another ride in that Ferrari more.

“I’ve always been in a rush to get out of Shane’s Ferrari after a game of golf,” Lara said at Warne’s burial in March. “But this time I’d pause and look back and say that you’re the best Australian I know.

I value our friendship. I’ve always felt honored in your presence.”

Warne died abruptly while on vacation in Thailand in March, but Lara and him remained friends.

While their get-togethers featured enjoying life’s comforts, there were vulnerable moments, and Warne always felt he could be honest with his fellow cricket hero.

Lara said, “We had a beautiful relationship.”

After cricket, we golfed a lot. We hung out often.

“He disclosed many secrets.”

“I think between me and Shane there were a lot of intimate moments where we talked about cricket and experienced cricket.”

Along with Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting, Lara and Warne had a great rivalry on the field.

Only Andre Nel (eight) and Glenn McGrath (15) grabbed more wickets than Warne in Lara’s 131-Test career.

Warne’s seven wickets had a solid batting average of 54.57.

Who won?

“I suppose we both won,” Lara laughed.

He said he always felt “very, very comfortable” facing Warne, but the leg-persistence spinner’s kept him in the fight.

“He would undoubtedly be my No.1 spinner that I ever played against, simply because mentally I think he was stronger than anybody else,” Lara remarked.

“When I stepped out into the center and Shane had the ball in his hand, the ball was coming off the middle of the bat, so I didn’t have to go searching. Shane kept working two to three hours longer to make that unique delivery.

That’s great—he might’ve had three or four wickets, but he wasn’t giving up on getting the top hitter out.

“And he exhibited that over the world, he went for your best players and if he was knocked about he came back. Champion traits. He possessed all the traits of a great.

Lara’s contribution in Warne’s absence is fitting.

Fox Cricket’s commentary box will honor Warne’s legacy.

Lara is proud to play a vital role in the two-Test series between Australia and the West Indies, starting in Perth on Wednesday.

Lara said, “It’s just great.”

“I feel very honoured to have shared a cricket ground and sometimes a dressing room with him playing on the same team. We’ve shared commentary boxes, but not a summer.

“Many will be emotional.”

Allardice Feels Los Angeles 2028 and Men’s T20 World Cup Would Benefit Cricket

Original Source: Los Angeles 2028 inclusion and Men’s T20 World Cup would leave cricket well off, says Allardice

The country will host the World Cup alongside the West Indies, and the proximity to the Californian Games is regarded to be ideal for capitalizing on attention.

Allardice told insidethegames that bringing elite cricket to the US inspires kids.

“It might be a sport someone looks at and says ‘I want to try that!'”

Development programs to promote top competition are part of the plan.

“Staging a World Cup in the US and an Olympic Games will leave us very well positioned for the future.”

While cricket is more popular in Australia, the ICC aims to find new audiences in LA 2028 rather than Brisbane 2032.

Major League Cricket’s (MLC) July 2019 start is expected to strengthen the sport.

The ICC won’t fund the initiative, even though it benefits it.

MLC aspires to reach a bigger, mainstream audience in the country and succeed where others failed.

Pro Cricket, formed in 2004, lasted one season, and the American Premiere League, founded in 2009, debuted in 2021.

After Tokyo 2020, the World Baseball Softball Confederation wants baseball back in the schedule.

Given baseball’s status in the city and nation, the ICC’s bid for Los Angeles 2028 was daring.

The ICC wants to attract new audiences by hosting the 2032 Summer Olympics in Brisbane, Australia, a cricket powerhouse.

Allardice said the ICC’s global cricket strategy is about growth and getting a footing in new markets.

“While cricket would be a terrific addition to an Olympic Games in Brisbane in 2032, it’s an established cricketing country, it’s had stadiums, and the people adore it.

“But the chance to break into a new US market is the real draw of going hard for 2028.”
